Una splendida giornata [This beautiful day]

Another favourite on gloomy days: Richard Jackson’s latest book is truly an ode to the rain.

Three children are playing inside while outside it’s pouring. No screens there to kill time, quite the opposite: they listen to the music, dance, play hide and seek, they dress up.. the starting point is joy and impatience to run out on a rain hunt (my daughter loves this part:)
And out? There are puddles for jumping of course, trees for climbing, hills and wet grass for running and rolling.

A crescendo of pure joy, from black and white to technicolour as the summer rain stops and the sun comes out, while the children keep chanting their mantra ‘Oh-this-beautiful-day!’
Grown ups will enjoy reading it out loud, embracing its enthusiasm, while little ones will be inspired by Suzy Lee’s amazing illustrations, and will stare at the pages thinking ‘Wait, I’d love to do that too!’.
